Author's Note: One of the best times of my life. Watching everyone fall off, seeing the lake. It really was an extraordinary moment for me. I chose to write this piece for my Narrative because I can remember everything that happened so well,; I just love talking about it.
“Let’s go girls we are gonna be late!” exclaimed my dad. Today was the day to go jet-skiing. The day was warm, sunny, and a perfect day to go to the Banana River. I was in Florida with my family, cousins, uncles, and family friends. Only some of us were going jet-skiing. The cars had finally arrived at the shop. Everyone who was going got on a jet-ski as my dad was paying the man. Skyler, my cousin’s friend, Randy, and I were all on the blue jet-ski! After, we strapped our life jackets on, we were off! Randy was driving us, I was in the middle, and Skyler was behind me. I looked to my left to see my sister, Laura, and my cousin, Michael. Next, I looked to my right and saw my brother, Mark, my Uncle Scott, and my sister’s friend, Paige. My jet-ski started off the fastest, but little did I know that Michael and Laura were gaining on us. It seemed as if the race had just begun.
“Skyler this is amazing!” I screamed over the sound of the jet-ski. I turned around to see Skyler chuckling as she pointed at my Uncle Scott, Mark, and Paige. They had fallen off in the No Wake Zone! Apparently, they were looking for my Uncle’s sunglasses: I thought that my Uncle Scott just couldn’t drive. It was a hilarious moment. Next, Randy turned around and joined us in the laughing. Michael's and our jet-ski kept on racing each other. The time had come where we neck and neck. Michael stepped on the gas and pulled ahead. Laura and Michael turned around and gave us a smirk. When, Randy saw the smirk he also stepped on the gas but we just couldn’t catch up to the jet-ski.
“Bam!” Skyler, Randy, Mark, Paige, Uncle Scott and I all turned around when we heard the sound. Our mouths dropped as we saw Laura fly over six feet in the air, then hit a bouncing wave, and fly back up into air free-falling. Laura landed in the water as Michael flew off and got a cut on the side of his neck! Our jet-ski went over by them as they were getting back on the jet-ski. Michael’s cut was throbbing. I screamed in panic, “Michael what happened? Laura are you ok?” Laura was giggling as she nodded yes. Michael spoke to us as he claimed, “The jet-ski got over 75 mph!” Most jet-skis can not get up that fast; we thought that they must have a got a speed jet-ski. Michael and Laura took off and the other jet-ski wasn’t even in sight! “We are the only people who haven’t fallen off yet. I wonder if we will?” Randy spoke to Skyler and me. “I know,” we both replied. Skyler then told me, “I kind of hope we don’t fall off.” “Are you kidding me? I’m pumped to see us fall of!”
As those words came out of my mouth, I thought I was being this daredevil hoping to fall off, but little did I know how fun and terrifying it was to fall off. I almost feel that I had jinxed us falling off. Randy suddenly started doing figure eights and doughnuts. Since, we were going so fast while doing the figures eights/doughnuts the jet-ski kept hitting the waves we made ourselves. The waves were bumpy! Suddenly, our jet-ski hit the bump wrong and Skyler flew off, pilling me off with her, as I pulled Randy off with me. All of our heads popped out of the water as we started swimming towards the jet-ski. Now, it was Randy driving, Skyler in the middle, and me in back. This was going to be interesting.
After we fell off, we caught back up to everybody! The race was back on. Uncle Scott looked at his water-proof watch and saw that the time we had left was thirty minutes, so he hollered over the waves to all of us. We all looked at each other, and started heading back towards the shop. Our jet-ski was in the lead, again! Everyone turned the corner, Uncle Scott’s jet-ski had taken the lead. I was not okay with this, but Michael and Laura then took the lead. In the end, Michael and Laura were the first jet-ski to get there. In my mind, I was okay with that because at least they weren’t the ones who fell off in the No Wake Zone. Although we lost the race, it was a hard fought battle that I will always remember. Plus, we got second!
