Author's Note: The book
Speak talks about how a young girl had become a social outcast in a matter of seconds. This piece is the cause and effect piece. I decided to write this piece on this book because it shows how a young girl's world changes so fast. It also has a great story line.
Being a social outcast can make a person go crazy. Melinda a incoming freshman was one of those. It all started when her “best friend” Rachel got themselves invited to the biggest party of the year. At the party there were juniors and seniors; they were probably the youngest people there. The only reason Melinda got to go to the party was because Rachel’s brother was invited. While Melinda and Rachel were at the party, people were drinking including Melinda. She ended up getting drunk and meeting a senior named Andy Evans. He was one of the most popular guys in the high school. Melinda and Andy started dancing and everything seemed perfect, until Andy unzipped his pants, where Melinda found herself laying on the ground. She tried to get him off of her but she couldn’t. When Andy finally got off of Melinda, she called the cops! Someone heard her she was calling and screamed, “The cops are coming!”
When, Melinda called the cops, everyone thought she was trying to ruin the party, but no one knew she was actually raped! It came to the day of the first day of school. Melinda got on the bus and hoped she would be able to sit with someone. Melinda’s hopes went down when everyone on the bus just stared as she got on the bus. Throughout the day, people just kept staring and being rude to her. The last hour of school was time for the pep rally where Melinda thought she found her first friend. This girl’s name was Heather, the new girl who had no clue of what happened over the summer. They ended up being friends, or so she thought. After a month or two Heather told Melinda she was too depressed and didn't ever want to do anything. Melinda was now the social outcast of the school, again. In the end, Melinda made a friend, Ivy, and people began treating her with respect when they found out she was raped.

I like this. It has very good description.
