Live Your Life to the Fullest

Author's Note: Surgery is really life threatening to people. I have never been in that kind of situation. A young boy has been and it killed him. God sent him back down to Earth. I really got inspired to write this piece because of how the Burpo family find out how Colton had met God.



“Mommy angels sang to me.” said Colton. He’s a young boy that went up to Heaven during surgery and was only four years old when he died and came back to life. Todd Burpo, Colton’s dad, the author of Heaven is for Real captured the story of how this event really turned their family’s life upside down. The author truly made Heaven is for Real a page turner as he told the story of Colton’s life and how they found out he went up to Heaven. Life is full of surprises; you never know what could happen so live your life to the fullest.


You never know what could happen. After Colton’s sugery the doctors said to Todd, Colton’s dad, “We don’t think he’s going to make it.” When Todd heard the news that they didn’t think their son was going to make it, he started talking madly to himself. He was trying to figure out why God took his son. God took his talking as a prayer, so he sent Colton back down to Earth. Colton went from Heaven to Earth in only a matter of an hour. Their son said it felt like one million years in Heaven. No one predicted that Colton was going to be up in Heaven and some people don’t think that’s normal. Being normal could be a good thing but if people are calling Colton not normal then they are wrong.


Colton is a very normal child, even though he just went to Heaven. He’s not the only person that has been called unusual. Many people have been called unusual for being themselves! Don’t call people weird because then they would feel like they are being bullied. You should never bully someone because from bullying someone, it could take the life of a person away. If someone is being themselves then you should let them. Colton couldn’t even help that he went up to Heaven. Colton described Heaven as a wonderful placed filled with many colors. His parents would always ask him what Jesus looked like and they never knew until a young girl painted Jesus. Colton said it was perfect! Perfection doesn’t normally describe a person, but perfection can describe the relationship between your family. Your family is always there for you even in Heaven.


Family is always there for you: you never know what you have until you lose it. What if someone in your family passes away? How would you get over it? Most people would cry and just think they will see them some day. Life is all about your family. Pop, as Colton called his grandpa that he never meet until he went to Heaven. Colton saw many angels! This young girl ran up to him and announced, “Colton!!” Colton looked really confused but found out it was sister! He had a sister that he never knew! Many people would be sad if they never meet someone in their family, from either a miscarriage or death. Once, Colton found out he had a sister he told his parents and they became ecstatic that they will get to meet their daughter one day and how their four year old son had meet her. You need to always remember never take life for granted.


Life is a once in a life time thing so always remember the good memories and the bad. Suddenly, in a blink of an eye you could be dead from a car crash, cancer, or any illness. There are many things that you might not see but could come at you. If you ever get down on yourself make sure you always never give up and fight for what you believe in. Thus, when you die, it’s only the beginning. Live your life to the fullest; life is full of surprises so you never know what could happen.
